  "Where Men Win Glory"

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/krakauer In "Where Men Win Glory," Jon Krakauer examines the killing by friendly fire of professional football player Pat Tillman, combining empathy and extensive reporting in an affecting portrait of the victim and a bitter condemnation of the cover-up that followed his death while on duty in Afghanistan.
Krakauer also ties the tragedy into a long line of U.S. misfires with the Taliban and al-Qaida — a pointed exercise at a time when the Afghanistan campaign is losing political and public support.
The author of "Into the Wild" and "Into Thin Air," and a former Seattleite, Krakauer tries to show what sort of man is persuaded by the Sept. 11 attacks to turn down a $3.6 million football contract and enlist for three years in the Army.

Jon Krakauer has climbed Mount Everest and made a solo ascent of Devils Thumb, a treacherous peak on the Alaska-Canada border. To research his new book, “Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman,” he embedded himself twice with the military in Afghanistan. He claims not to be as foolhardy as he was in his youth, but he still thrives on a certain amount of risk. All the same, he was a little apprehensive about venturing onto the campus of the United States Military Academy here on Monday to sign copies of “Where Men Win Glory” and to answer questions about it. He said he had no idea what to expect. ~ By Charles McGrath www.nytimes.com/

Good endorsement for what looks like a good book. I think I may buy that one.

God bless that mans family--I hope they get justice.

And Jon cried, almost.  man....he has SO much heart.  Pat Tillman's story is one of American greatness.  I need this in my patriotism.

I don't really know how Jon Stewart holds his composure...I guess it is being a pro.  But he wanted to bust out talking to this author.

Jon Stewart apparently cares about America.  My old man was that kind of guy.  But Jon Stewart (I don't want to call him Mr. Stewart or Jon...I do not know him personally)  is a national treasure.  And the Tillman family are heroes.  Oh there are many other families who are heroes, I know.

But man...

Watch the movie , "Taking Chance".

I can't be the only one here who is so pro service men/woman that I want to...well, I never did...I want to salute.

and that's all I have to say because words fail me.

There is a kitten on my table.  Alive, inquisitive, and well.

Good Lord.

Kudos!

So wait, this Tillman fellow thought the war was unnessessary and illegal, yet he still chose to go and kill people for nothing ? Chose murder over his family ? Either he was a total idiot, or a bloodthirsty scum, not a hero, thats for sure.

Thanks, Jon and The Daily Show! Jon, Wyatt and Sam Bee waxed eloquent!

Democratic majority - "Oh, chainsaw pawed bear of reform! Have mercy on your opponents' souls!" :smileyvery-happy: It's all stuck because confronting nonsense has a way of taking on a life all it's own once started. It tends to breach comfort zones. Better to stay put... :smileyindifferent:

:smileyvery-happy: "Public Option"..."Government Option"..."A.I.D.S." !! "What? Where's everybody going?" :smileyvery-happy:

50 million dollars to teach Abstinence? I have a better idea! :smileyhappy: Give The Eloquent Baby one million dollars...I'll tell young people the good things about being careful when having or thinking about having sex. :smileyhappy: It would save the American people lots of money.

Wyatt, thank-you, Mastah! :smileyvery-happy: "To succeed is to fail to fail" :smileyhappy: "The Great Victory is that which never occurs..." Woww. "That is the sound of one party clapping." Wyatt Cenac!:smileyhappy:

Our sweet Sam Bee! :smileyvery-happy: "Suckers!" "...the faster the better" Irene Aldridge: "Hot hot hot." Sam Bee: "Hahh-haht" So cute. Fast fast fast. Help the unwashed? Oh, well. :smileyhappy: Thank-you, Sam Bee, for the udder truth. Hee hee.

"Where Men Win Glory" - Thank-you, Jon and Jon Krakauer. The story is a heartbreaker. It's a question of honor.

Everyone knows what is right but are afraid and confused.

Hearing Jon and Jon Krakauer talk about Pat Tillman makes me feel for my father, who has within him a similar glory, having been a decorated USAF fighter pilot who flew missions over North VietNam in 1965, but bitter about the outcome of that war. I try to honor all heroism by being as brave as I can be. All heroism is the same heroism. Love for your brother.

Kudos!

All tree segments were AWESOME yesterday. The cash cow segment was a vital CLUE to restoring the American economy. I'm just SAD that when some stupid "death panels" lady comes over there is so much feedback, and when there are crucial subject - there is not a flinch from the American people.
