Hey Joe, if she was an IRS tax fraud agent, would you happen to know the truth about how our income tax system works? When I research this online I can't find a clear answer.

President Obama’s choice for Treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, spent last week wiping egg off his face, $34,000 worth of it. That’s how much in taxes the 47-year-old failed to pay from 2001 through 2004. At a confirmation hearing Wednesday, Geithner repeatedly apologized, but he now faces the task of getting back into the good graces of the American people. How might Geithner do that? For starters, he could direct the IRS to launch a special catch-rich-tax-cheats offensive along the lines of the just-announced crackdown on the wealthy announced in the UK. A new anti-tax evasion unit in Britain’s tax agency will be targeting“high net-worth individuals” and searching for hidden assets and income. That might entail, for instance, scrutinizing sales records on luxury second and third homes. UK officials are hoping to reap £7 billion, or $9.7 billion, from the effort. In the United States, an analysis of IRS data documented last year, Americans who make between $500,000 and $1 million a year are underreporting their incomes by 21 percent, triple the “misreport” rate of taxpayers who make between $30,000 and $50,000 . . .

Thanks WM. I remember that. Don't you find it a little suspect that this guy didn't pay his taxes?  Does he know something that we don't?  Maybe it doesn't really matter if we pay our taxes because it just goes into paying back interest on the debt??  That's why I was asking Joe about taxes.  There's too much opposing info out there and I'm not sure what the truth is.  I just find it very interesting that a guy who was the head of the NY Fed didn't feel it was necessary to pay his taxes.  I've heard from some pretty heavy financial guys that Paulson didn't have to pay taxes on a massive sum of money when he took the Treasury Secy job.  Something is definitely fishy...just not sure how it REALLY works yet.  You can find the "answer" if you look, but when you start questioning the answer there's more info to review.

Paul Volcker disagrees with Geithner / Summers on "Too Big to Fail".  Interesting article...

I just caught a bit of The Ed Show on MSNBC... talking about a growing consensus in Congress that Tim Geithner and Larry Summers should go....too geared to Wall Street, need an economic team geared to Main street.

I'll update this post after I catch a repeat and research it further.
