Well, first you might want to consider that this is on Eric Cantor (Republican Whip) channel and has been pretty chopped up. ....grrr Also, it happened Aug 2, 2007 ..2 years ago... Of course you won't see that on his channel either So with a little digging I found out...the rest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Select_Committee_on_the_Voting_Irregularities_of_August_2,_2007 Basically what happened was the there was a very close vote on a republican amendment to deny benefits to illegal immigrants 214-214...and a couple of republicans changed their vote at the last minute..to make it 215-213 ..when the democrats saw that they were going to lose, they rallied a few more votes to make it 212-216. But apparently it was after the bell had rung, so the republicans whined that it was the first vote that should have counted. So they said...Okay..let's have another vote..but the republicans stomped out and refused to have another vote. The next day.....when they had a temporary majority, Republicans attempted to protest the previous night's vote with the
daily routine of verifying the previous day's congressional record, but
Murtha, as presiding officer, overruled a GOP request for a recorded
vote on the approval procedure. Murtha apparently ignored that
Republicans at the time had a majority of members then in the House
chamber, which enables them to force a record vote. Rep. James Sensenbrenner
(R-Wis.) called on Murtha to explain his ruling, and Murtha responded
by saying, "It is up to the chair. Let me tell you this, the vote will
show that the approval would be approved by the House, as it has been." So there was the first vote, which the Democrats plainly had the votes for but allegedly didn't get them in on time..then there was the 2nd vote, which was to protest the 1st vote..and Murtha was heavy handidly using his power, to actually fight a previous abuse of power. The video was chopped up to confuse the issue.... Anyway it was controversial enough to make yet ANOTHER investigation...arghh Anyway...read the wikipedia link if you want to know more. It would be nice if someone would post the wikilink on the youtube channel...I'm tired...sigh So this is your big "Insult to Democracy"

To answer your question, no. Someone sent it to me. In and of itself, I found it a bit shocking. Thanks for doing the research that I was too lazy to do at the time Its just another good example of an ineffective system, I think. Message Edited by Al on 10-18-2009 10:11 AM

It took a while to research too! but I'm glad to be of service, I have to admit it perked my interest too. You can repay me by posting the Wikipedia links on youtube so as to educate the Republicans, so they don't go start world war III.... over parlimentary procedure about sending the agriculture bill of 2007 back to commitee Anyway..this went on literally for DAYS... .It's interesting to see Hoyer's remark about 30 seconds into this "Enough is Enough" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRwF2X1kKII What's the saying about laws and sausages?

There's another part to this story where the voting board allegedly got unplugged "accidentally".... It might be funny to reenact these scenes, but with a bunch of 9 year olds playing the various congressmen. It could end with one of them yanking out the plug. Brought to you by the Daily Show. --- Great Congressional Moments in History

Interesting. I tried to add a comment to the video about the wikipedia link and found it didn't show up. Apparently Congressman. Cantor has his comment que set on "approval only"..I'm guessing my comment won't show up...maybe just a tweeny bit humorous when your video complains of heavy handed tactics by those in power...and you censor the link that shows what what actually happened. But we'll see....still this might have story in it yet :-) It would be nice if YouTube showed that comments were being moderated..
