I am not sure if I am the only person who is not getting this, but it seems like there is a difference in Palin's accent in Alaska and now.  Maybe she is trying too hard to be folksie. Bad actress.

 -it's just the camera can't interrupt/make faces (Couric) and cause word salad.  You're not crazy. Op-ed "Everything you heard is wrong" by Steve Pinker might amuse you.  see nytimes op-ed

You are correct! It has changed! As an Alaskan, I can tell you that no one has that accent up here. She is pretending to be some folksy hockey mom, when my friends in Wasilla say they have only seen her at like 4 hockey games in the past 10 years!
