Almost all video problems are the cause of one of the following things:

1. You live in a country that we don't serve

2. You do not have the latest version of Adobe Flash

3. You have a firewall, antivirus, or other software that is blocking the video

Over the coming weeks, we will be posting solutions and advice about all of these things.

In the meantime, it would be really helpful if you could let us know the following things:

1. What country are you in?

2. What operating system, browser, and browser version are you having problems with?

3. What make and version of antivirus do you have?

4. What make and version of firewall do you have?

5. What make and version of adblocker/spam blocker do you have?

6.  If you are using Firefox, which plugins/extensions do you have loaded?

Thanks.

Ok, I guess I'll go first..

1. What country are you in? England

2. What operating system, browser, and browser version are you having problems with?

O.S - Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Internet Explorer v. 7

3. What make and version of antivirus do you have ? AVG Free 8.0

4. What make and version of firewall do you have ? Windows firewall (??)...

5. What make and version of adblocker/spam blocker do you have ?  not sure i have one

hope this helps somehow, i dont think anything changed on my laptop which would make the videos suddenly stop playing, so it was a bit suprising when suddenly they didnt work, although the smaller videos work from the main page..

btw...you guys make a great show :smileyhappy:

Thanks Sketch.  Unfortunately we are unable to serve Daily Show video content to UK.  You'll have to check in with Channel 4.

Best,

Hi Rhys,

I live in California.  I have Adobe Flashplayer 9. I don't know of any firewall that is blocking the video--specially since I was able to watch up to yesterday night, when it suddenty stopped. I have a PC Mac running OS X 10.4.11.  I have also turned off the anti-pop-ups feature.

I did update my QuickTime to 7.5.5, but your video was already not playing at that point.

Any suggestions?

Maluca

Hi again Rhys,

I have just updated my Firefox browser to 3.0.3, but still the same problem: all of your site loads except for the video which usually starts playing automatically. The thumbnails of other videos are there, and when I select one, it says "Now playing.." but in fact is not.  There is just a blank white space where the video would normally be playing.

I'm in Germany, what's the deal here? Running XP Pro fully loaded and up to date, and using various browsers on various machines. As to the other 2 possibilities, they've been updated / deactivated / whatevered with no positive result.

Hey Rhys,

so why did this change ?...because we were able to view them before ...did channel 4 buy the rights or something ?..

I'm not too bothered though, I'd rather come back here and watch the smaller videos, then look around other bits of the site...than use their site..

@sketch:  I think this changed earlier this year.  I'll need to investigate.

@mjykinds:  I am investigating Norton Antivirus 2006 and will get back to you.  Norton Personal Firewall 2006 works in the same way as Norton Personal Firewall 2004.  Please read this post for instructions on how to watch video.  Let me know if it works!

@maluca4u: Quicktime should have no effect on whether videos can play or not.  I'd recommend you check this solution about configuring Flash.  If this does not work, you may need to uninstall flash completely, and reinstall.  Please see this Adobe support page to download the Flash uninstaller.

@bubblybunny327: Can you let me know which version of Norton you are using?  Thanks!

@worldwidewick:  I'll need to check whether we are able to serve videos to Germany.  Strange though - you *should* receive some messaging if you are geoblocked.  Are you seeing a white or black box where the video should be?

Rhys,

Thank you, your solution worked.  I upped the level of data accepted on my computer to 1MB, and now it works.

I can go see the shows I missed:smileyhappy:
